It can, when the eyelid itself is low enough to block part of the visual field.
The key distinction is that ptosis repair improves a mechanical obstruction to sight. It does not correct nearsightedness, cataracts, glaucoma, retinal disease, or another problem within the eye. For the right patient, however, elevating a drooping lid can restore the upper and sometimes central portion of the visual field that the eyelid has been covering.
How Ptosis Can Affect Vision
Ptosis is the medical term for an upper eyelid that sits lower than it should. A mild difference may be primarily cosmetic. More significant ptosis can cover the pupil or reduce the space through which light enters the eye, particularly when looking straight ahead or upward.
Patients often describe the problem in practical terms rather than medical ones. They may notice difficulty seeing traffic lights, shelves, signs, or uneven terrain. Reading can become tiring because they raise their brows to clear their line of sight. Some people develop forehead tension, headaches, or a strained appearance by the end of the day from constant effort to hold the lids open.
