Eyebrows raised

Botox is a injectable medication that is placed under the skin near muscles of facial expression. Botox was originally developed to treat lazy eyes but its great use was transferred to the face and other muscles of the body. It then was used for cosmetic wrinkles of the face. As an oculoplastic surgeon in Denver, Dr Thiagarajah is uniquely trained to inject botox around the face with regard for minimizing complications.

Non Cosmetic or Functional uses of Botox:

Meige Syndrome

Orbicularis Myokymia

Involutional Entropion

Cosmetic Uses of Botox:

Glabella or “11s”

Crows feet

Botox starts working in forty eight hours and has maximal effect at 7-10 days. Botox lasts for 3-4 months. Side effects are minimal. The most common areas for botox injection are in the upper face. Botox in the lower face is also done in the chin and around the mouth. To learn more about Botox read our Botox Frequently asked Questions section.

On the day of your appointment please minimize makeup and coverup so your oculoplastic surgeon,  Dr Thiagarajah can evaluate your face properly. The injections take approximately 10-15 minutes to perform. For 20 minutes after administration you will have small bumps on the skin from the injected Botox. These go away as the Botox is absorbed over 20 minutes.. Also, it is important to not rub the face or shot location as the medication can be shifted to other locations on the face such as the eyelid and cause a drooping eyelid or double vision.
